My mother recently passed away. Her stay was 3 days. The ER staff was phenomenal when we brought her there. She was in alot of pain. However, when admitted, she just could not be left alone. There was constant cramping in her side. She needed to move around or else she'd be in pain. My sisters and I kept taking turns there and sleeping overnight. We helped her move around and feel less cramped. I feel very sorry for the elderly that have have nobody to help them out. When my mother started to get worse, nobody explained what was happening to her. We needed explanations and they just weren't there. When my sisters and I went up to the nurses desk, we got deep sighs and no eye contact. Finally, after a few hours a nursing supervisor came in and answered our questions very professionally and was comforting. The doctor on call and the "weekend" cardiologist were extremely rude and unprofessional. Excuse us if our mother was dying and we bothered them on the weekend. It was an awful experience medically. However, my mother passed away peacefully with her four daughters by her side. I will never step foot in this hospital again with a loved one.
My father recently had open heart surgery at this hospital to have two valves repaired, and I was very skeptical because of all the negative reviews that I had seen. Much to my surprise (and extreme happiness), we were all treated like first class the entire time we were there. He was there for 8 days, and for the first few days, my mother and I stayed until very late hours, but everyone was patient and understanding with us, and gently explained everything that was going on, every step of the way. From the receptionists, to the doctors, ICU nurses, rehab nurses, to the lunch staff, and cleaning staff, our experience was nothing but positive, and made the stress so much more bearable for all. I wish that people would post all of their positive experiences, because the overall reviews should be much higher for this institution. Thank you Regional for treating us with patience, respect and kindness!!
Do not go to Regional on a weekend. Exceedingly long waits for many tests, results, personnel, treatment. Not enough staff on duty. Too many bad experiences to make up for the good.
The emergency room nurse July Thursday night was extraordinary in care and prompt response. Two nurses who were on duty and admitted my mother to her room were the most caring, careful, kind professionals in the hospital (about 3:00 a.m. on a Friday in July). A male nurse the next day had patience and personality and was a blessing to us all. Two assistants on Saturday and Sunday tried to be helpful, but could not get any answers we needed.
It is 1am, Tuesday. Still in room 6 of ER. Arrived via ambulance with my wife 8 hours ago. ER staff did a great job of helping us, but the wait to be moved to ICU has been terrible. Her doctor, who had a substitute on, did not return call for admission approval until midnight. The staff left numerous messages to call regional. It is now 1:15AM. Still waiting for movement to a room. If she could walk, I would leave here immediately! We were here three times earlier in the year and the same thing happened. The wait is unprofessional and adds to the publics perception of the health industry. I will be contacting our doctor later today too. Government run health care cannot be any worse than this. It is now 2:15am, still sitting in ER room 6. Arrived at 5:15pm day before, 9 hours waiting. Our great nurse shift over at 3am. Will probably be still waiting for transfer to ICU when she leaves.
I get there at 11:20pm wait for over a hour with no one there get into room two hour for test urine two hour to test blood for lower back pain and only thing.. I'm told is you have low iron... NO DUH... THE DOCTOR HAD NO HEART TO LISTEN AND WAVE OFF MY PAIN TO MY FACE AS IM IN TEARS.. NEVER AGAIN..!! OH n left at 5am with no help or answer..
Perhaps the others, who "are busy with other patients", ones who ignored us, who would not get a priest on call for us, who disappeared when we asked for answers, one R.N. who put her hands in the air and said "why did you call me?" and did not attempt to help, who were rough in their treatment, should seek another line of employment, because you are not what a nurse is. And the two doctors who reprimanded me for calling you after 9:00 p.m., well, I am still a daughter concerned for my mother after 9:00. You will not be bothered by me again: my mother is dead.
